Have you ever heard of a facility fee? A facility fee is an extra charge that hospitals add to cover overhead costs such as equipment, maintenance, support staff, and security. Even if the visit is virtual or at a hospital-owned outpatient clinic, they might have these additional fees. So patients often unknowingly agree to these fees through vague consent forms without being told the actual cost. Facility fees can range from $50 to several hundreds or thousands of dollars and are not always covered by the insurance. I had a case where the client was never informed in advance of a facility fee, and the provider finally, believe it or not, wrote off the $2,250 bill. Always ask for a copy of the charges before the services are rendered. Call me if you need me.
